A happy belated new years to all my Sophistipeeps! It's better late than never right?! I can't believe January is already gone.

This year I've committed to blogging more consistently so that you can get to know me better and I'd love the opportunity get to know you. So don't be shy let's connect! Leave me a comment here or hit me up on FB, Insta, YouTube or Pinterest. You can also convo me on Etsy or drop me a line at shah@lilspaces.com

For those who don't know me, I'm Shah, the founder of Lil Spaces, mum to a cheeky 2.5 year old little lady named Helaina and the undocumented wife of Mitch (my better half and best friend). My dream of making magical creations for kids (that parents would secretly want for themselves) became a reality in December 2014 when I launched Lilspaces.com with my cousin Darko. Lil Spaces has recently turned one. So toddler years here we come.

For me, not unlike having an infant, the first year has been a whirlwind. Everything was new and super exciting, and at the same time there was a level of anxiety as I found my step and gained my confidence as a business woman. As the saying goes there have definitely been chills, thrills and spills.

2015 highlights

The high light of 2015 was undoubtedly the overwhelming positive response to our cloud lights. They have drifted across the globe to the US, UK & Europe, Asia and the Middle East. As a designer, creator and maker, I wear my heart on my sleeve and the fact that someone is willing to spend their hard earned cash on something that I have create still blows my mind.

Being selected as a finalist in the 2015 Etsy Design Awards was pretty cool too. For me it was a validation that what I make is good enough. I am good enough. And I need to keep following my passion and doing what I love.

The lows

My lowest point was one November evening last year when Darko honestly and gently told me that he no longer felt the passion he once did for Lil Spaces and he needed to move on. As devastating as it was to hear, I completely got where he was coming from. I feel like I have found my calling but it's not the same for him. We remain close and he will transition to his new unofficial role as my confidant and design consultant.

Where to from here?

I'm settling into being a solopreneur. It's a little scary at times but I'm enjoying it for the most part. I sat down over the holidays and made myself a 12 month plan. The only trouble with it is that there could possibly be too many things for one person to do. We'll see what happens. Go big or go home right?

Here are a few key things:

  • I'll be releasing some new products over the coming months
  • Work on a remote control version of the cloud light
  • I will publish a blog post twice a month. There will be free printables (exclusive to VILP members), space tours (customer room tours), DIY tutorials, cool but userful infographics and behind some the scenes chaos.
  • I'll be showcasing at the RAW Exhibition on April 15 in Canberra (stay tuned for more info).

There are a tonne of other things but I don't want to bore you with the details. On that note I'll get going but before I head off I want to say thank you so much. Lil Spaces is only possible because of you!
